24 week Update
March 30th -
How far along? 24
Total weight gain/loss? 17 lbs
Maternity clothes? oh yeah! love love maternity clothes. My favorites are my maternity lounge pants - not only are they lounge pants but they are maternity too! X-tra comfy!
Stretch marks? not yet...but I wouldn't be surprised. Its likely in my genes.
Morning Sickness? nope. I feel great!
Sleep? This one is tricky lately. I still fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow but I have a hard time once I wake up. I had two nights last week with MAJOR insomnia moments. I woke up around 4am both nights and I was awake for more than 2 hours. I think I initially wake up when I have to go to the bathroom. I get up & go and then I guess I wake Will up because he starts kicking which means I want to lay there and feel his sweet little pitter patter. Then, before you know it, my mind is busy with work stuff, photography stuff and other things I need to get done. Luckily this only happened twice last week. However, over the weekend, there was bad storms and this woke me up several times. I also had a bad dream about our sweet little dog Jack who was killed by a car. I woke up really sad and it was hard to go back to sleep on Saturday night.
One FUNNY thing about sleep that I just have to share:
One night last week I was so tired that I fell asleep right away and I guess I started dreaming immediately. Brad wasn't even asleep yet because it had only been 2 minutes. All of a sudden I started laughing out loud & at the same time I woke myself up from my sleep. Brad said "ummm, what was that?" and I said "oh gosh, was that out loud?" Brad said "yes, you were laughing" and we both bursted out laughing for a good 10 minutes. It was hilarious! Unfortunately I couldn't remember what made me laugh in my "dream" but it must have been great. haha
Best moment last week? I think almost every momen is incredible and its hard to pick just one. I think about how blessed we are to be experiencing each milestone as a little family. I already love our William so much. I talk to him and sing to him (Lord help his little ears) and I still get very excited when he kicks or does a flip. We picked up Will's crib this past weekend. Although Saturday was a rough day with the loss of Jack and our family so upset, we still ventured out to pick it up. A few people told me they thought the crib would fit in my small SUV. Oh no! It was 3x's the size of car and we were not able to pick it up that night. We thought about going back but there were really bad storms so we waited til Sunday. We had lunch with Megan, Kevin and Ansley (who is turning 1 this week! - our god daughter). We ate at Ippolitos in Kennesaw and it was really good. Will really liked it too I guess because he was kicking up a storm afterwards. Megan & Kevin are so sweet and paid for lunch as a "congratulations" for being pregnant. I love our sweet friends. After lunch, we picked up Dad's truck and went to get the crib for the 2nd time. Brad got it in the house by sliding the box and flipping it on its side. He will need help getting the box upstairs unless he opens it and brings it up piece by piece. A bed for our sweet William to lay his little head. :)
Another great moment from this week was from last night. Brad was out of town for an offsite conference in Athens Ga so I had dinner with Erika :) My dad is out of town so I brought my leftovers home to mom and she came over for a little bit. I had my feet up & I was resting which doesn't happen quite enough these days. Will started kicking so hard that you could see my stomach move! :) Mom has wanted to feel him kick for the past few weeks but when she puts her hand there he stops. We laugh about it because mom always works her magic on babies to put them to sleep. But last night she felt him kick a few times. I asked her "if he is kicking THIS hard now, what is he going to be doing in a few weeks?" :) Love this kid.
Worst moment last week? When our dog Jack was hit by a car. He is my sister's dog that lived at my parents house. It was heartbreaking for the whole family. It hurt my heart and it was even worse to see my sister & mom so extremely upset too! I hate seeing my family that upset. I can't believe the person didn't even stop. Drives me crazy how people speed down our road!! Its residential. We will miss our Jackie-Putz (as I liked to call him). Chulo & Karch will miss their bestfriend.
Movement? The coolest movement I've noticed lately is when he does flips. It is such a distinct & cool feeling. Sometimes it feels a little weird but I just talk to him when he does it. He's saying "hi mommy".
Gender? Our sweet little boy.
Labor signs? no, thank the Lord.
Belly button in/out? in....but Brad keeps saying that its going to disappear at any moment. ha
What I miss: Soda, Sushi & a nice cold beer (I always want a good beer when its nice out).
What I am looking forward to: Decorating his nursery! & holding him for the first time.
Exercise: I'm still walking 4 times a week during my lunch hour for 20-25 minutes. Brad and I also take walks with Chulo at night now that its getting warmer. I like to make sure I do my stretching a few times a week and prenatal yoga 1-2 times a week because it really helps me feel stretched out, makes me stronger and improves my posture with all of this weight on the front.
Other things to remember: I've been meaning to document that I always sing "You are my Sunshine" to Will. I also sing a song I made up & the words are basically "Mommy loves you" over & over. I'm not very creative. ha.
24 week check up : I had my 24 week check up on Tuesday. I was supposed to see another Dr at the office because I've been working my way through the rotation but I saw Dr S. instead (my main Dr). She said I looked good, she wasn't concerned about the weight I've gained this month and said its probably mostly in my chest (I think she is right, yikes). She said I may want to wear support hose or a belt to support my uterus because my weight in my chest is pulling my shoulders down and putting weight on my stomach, she said I may need to more support because of this weighing down. I thought this was interesting.
She said "are you resting when you get home from work"
How did she know I wasn't? Who has time for that? I work when I get home from work.
She said to make sure I was putting my feet up when I got home for a little while and after I make dinner. I am going to do my best to relax more. Maybe a little fairy will do all my photography work, clean the house, cook dinner, clean the kitchen, the laundry, not to mention all of the other cleaning & organizing that needs to be done? haha
My blood pressure was good. 117/60
I go back in 2 weeks for the Glucola test to see if I have gestational diabetes. I'm praying I don't! That would stink. I have to drink that really sweet stuff so that doesn't sound like fun.
Milestones: from baby-gaga.com
It's another week full of exciting developments for your magical growing baby!
Just take a look at the checklist for this week: 1) ears: done; 2) fingernails: done; 3) (if you have a boy) testicles: taking their 3-4 day trip from the abdominal wall to the scrotum; and 4) lungs walls: secreting “surfactant”.
What’s surfactant? It's basically what it sounds like: a surface-activated fat that helps your baby's little lungs inflate (where inflate = fill with air not get more expensive for no understandable reason).
In the meantime, your submerged baby is still breathing in their amniotic fluid (and a bit of pee), preparing and rehearsing their lungs for an oxygen-filled life outside the womb.
By the end of this week, your wee womb-squatter will be weighing in at a whopping 2 lbs and 14 inches long.
Stupid things people have said lately:
1) Brad was out of town at a off-site retreat this week and he usually makes the coffee at night. I didn't feel like making it just for me to have 3/4 of a cup. So I decided to get a 1/2 decaf, 1/2 regular cup at work. I was at the coffee station and this woman (the SAME woman that basically told me she knew I was having a boy because my butt was getting bigger) said to me "you just can't kick the habit, can you?"
What I said: "Its half & half" -- Like its any of her $&!*% business.
What I should have said: "Its the cigarettes that are really hard to quit" OR "At least I've cut back to 6 cups a day". hahahaha
2) while washing my hands in the bathroom someone says to me "you don't have too much longer do you"
What I said: 16 weeks
What I should have said "My mother always said if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".
3) While walking past the conference room someone said "You're moving a lot slower these days, aren't you?"
Note: this is the same *NOT SKINNY* person that sits in her car and eats her lunch while I walk lap after lap up the hill & around the huge parking lot for the past 6 YEARS that i've worked there.
What I said: I really have to pee. (because I did & he was kicking my bladder right before I got up!)
What I should have said: "Not as slow as you".
Not sure what has happened to me. I used to have some great come backs. :) I have my whole life. I always share these stories with my friends, mom & sister because everyone gets a big kick out of how ridiculous some people are.
I will share some photos at 25 weeks since Josa & Kelli are going to take some of me on the beach this weekend. They are coming with me to help me shoot a wedding in Tybee. We are spending time in Savannah first. Nothing like combining work with a girls weekend!! :)
