One Less Rib

I have been waiting to blog about Sarah and her blood clot/rib update because I wanted to wait to see what her Dr would say at Friday's appointment. Here is the email that Sarah sent on Friday.

I went to the thoracic surgeon today to follow up on my blood clot/rib
issue and due to the thoracic outlet syndrome, he is going to remove my
first/top rib on Friday. They will go in through my arm pit and remove
the rib in pieces. The procedure will take about an hour and a half and
I will be in the hospital for about 48 hours. The doctor said recovery
time would be about two weeks; I'll see him again a week after surgery
and then back to my regular doctor to re-establish my blood thinner
meds.

Apparently this thoracic outlet syndrome happens in young active people
because he's doing the same surgery on a girl close to my age earlier
that morning. Sort of a two for one deal I guess? I saw none of these
"young" people in the waiting room though. The only young people were my
parents age and they were there with their parents who were patients!

The good part is that I will have immediate relief from pain and
numbness in my arm...and I'll get hospital mac and cheese!! And this
isn't life threatening like a 4 inch blood clot, so hopefully all will
go smoothly!

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers up until this point! I am
very blessed to have so many people that care about me! I should be good
as new this time next month. Well, minus a rib. ;)

Much love,

Please keep Sarah in your prayers over the next several weeks and especially during surgery on Friday. I think I am going to take the day off work on Friday and go for a visit after she gets out of surgery. I will try to post an update Friday night or Saturday morning.

I am so scared for Sarah even though she doesn't really seem scared and she has amazed me with how brave she is. I think this whole experience has really put a lot of things into perspective for her. Its too bad it takes something like this to really show what is really important in life and who your true friends are.

Sarah, you have so many people that love you & are praying for you. Keep that pretty little head up. Love you!

I will have one less rib to hold up my head, but I'll try! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! Love you!
