& now we know

A few months ago Brad and I decided that we should buy more life insurance. We are already covered a few times (year salary) by our employers but we read somewhere that we should be covered 10x's our annual salary. First of all, the thought of anything ever happening to Brad tears me apart so it was really difficult to even have the conversations about life insurance. However, it was important that I understood what it entails. By the way, this is one sign you are getting OLD!

One of the things you have to do in order to purchase life insurance is get a physical. I didn't know this, but they now have lab technicians that travel to your home and do the necessary tests. They ask you a bunch of health related questions...do you have a history of this list of medical conditions in your family, do you smoke, drink etc. They also take your weight, blood pressure, a urine sample & a blood sample.
Last night a very nice (but hard to understand) hispanic woman came to our house.
(Sidenote: I stayed home from work yesterday because I am still really sick & now Brad has the same thing! Uggh!!)
They told us not to eat anything after 1pm and our test didn't start until 7:30. Everyone that knows us, knows that almost 7 hours is WAY too long for us to go without food. We both get irritable and Brad gets severe headaches. Luckily, neither one of those things really happened yesterday but we were starving!
We should have spoken spanish to this lady but im pretty sure she knew more english than we know spanish since we hardly use spanish. Anyway, she started all of the tests with me. I filled out the forms, she took my blood pressure (very good) and then she says she is going to take a blood sample. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had blood drawn. Maybe before I went to Spain but I don't remember it and I have no idea how that went.
She tried to find veins in my arms with no luck. "you have bad veins". I continued to apologize (like I could help it) . I don't really like the idea of needles (who does?) but I thought I would be fine. She kept tying my arms with that band so she could see my veins but she was having a really hard time finding any. Finally she put the needle in my left arm (im sitting at the dining room table) & I start to feel dizzy & then I blackedout!!!! I fainted!!
I had no idea I was that squimish! I wasn't "out" very long and she brought me back with a little sniff of rubbing alochol. It was so scary though. Ive never blacked out like that before.
She ended up taking my blood from a vein in the top of my hand.

Brad's tests were right after mine. She took his blood pressure first and I guess he was worried about me when I fainted because his blood pressure was something insane, like 160/100. The sweet spanish lady was like "oh no! we should wait and do other test first. Its so high because you worry about Susan (what she kept calling me)".
She took Brad's blood sample in like 2.5 seconds ("you have good vein") and his blood pressure ended up being 120/70, which is good.

So, NOW WE KNOW. I get squimish with needles. That is going to get really interesting when im pregnant. We will have to let the doctors know that I faint!!

Also, Brad started orientation at Emory today for his MBA. Since he caught the cold I have, please say a prayer of healing & strength for him. He is going to be really busy with work, school & home. I feel so bad that he is sick...not that I could help it.
