11 - 12 months
Written July 8th 2012 -
Between 10-1/2 & 11 months you went from 2 teeth to 7 teeth! Now, at 12 months you have 4 on the top and 3 on the bottom. Your right incisor tooth on the bottom has yet to come in but I’m sure its next! We found it interesting that your incisors came in on the top before your two top front teeth!
You pulled up for the first time (on your own) right at 11 months. Mommy had you in the bathroom with her and you pulled up on the tub! This was the first time I’ve see you pull up on your own. That same night you pulled up on a big Tupperware that I keep a bunch of your toys in. You’ve pulled up a few times here & there ever since.
You started clapping your hands a lot a couple of weeks before you turned 11 months. One night after dinner, I was clearing dishes and started singing “If you’re happy & you know it”, I looked down where you were playing on the floor and noticed you clapping your hands and bouncing up & down. I guess you learned that song at TT’s (daycare) because that was one of the first times I sung it to you. ….but ever since we sing it A LOT to watch you clap hands. You also clap your hands when we say “clap hands”.
You started “dancing” to music right before you turned 11 months. When a toy plays music or you hear music in a restaurant, you start bouncing up & down. Its too cute!! It was especially cute when you did it in a mexican restaurant the other day to some latino songs in the background. Too funny!!
You turned 11 months on Father’s Day (june 17th). We were on a family trip in Hilton Head. This was our first family (just the 3 of us) trip. You (OF COURSE) had a fever the day we left, around 102 but you still seemed in pretty good spirits so we went anyway. We stayed in the Holiday Inn Resort on daddy’s hotel discount with IHG. The hotel is right on the beach and has a pretty big pool! Unfortunately, there was a fire in the hotel on the early morning of the 17th. A fire started in a closet on the first floor. The fire alarms went off at 3am and everyone had to evacuate. The firemen were already there when we made it outside. We were on the 4th floor. You woke up out of a deep sleep and you seemed very confused why such a loud noise was going off and we were going outside. You started to get really upset after about 45 minutes of us being outside. You were ready to go back to sleep! Finally, we realized we could go over to the pool chairs and we waited to find out what was going to happen. Luckily, we were able to go back in after a couple of hours (since we were on the 4th floor). We were so glad it wasn’t worse than it was but we feel sorry for those people that were on the 1st floor and weren’t able to stay after that. The sprinklers also went off so their stuff probably got wet too!! We didn’t let the experience ruin our trip and we were glad that it didn’t take too long to put you back to sleep after all of that craziness!!! We were all back to sleep by 6 and you got up again around 8 so we headed to the beach.
While we were on vacation we noticed a few “new” things. Not sure if it was because we spent almost 5 days together as a family but it was fun to watch you learn & experience new things.
· Our Hilton Head beach trip was your first time in the ocean!
- · You tried to “clean” the sand with a wipe after we changed your diaper. Hehe. Cleaning sand would be endless!
- · You said “agua” for water which was surprising since we usually say “water”.
- · You started saying “ma” when you want more food…or a specific type of food.
- · You finally figured out how to pick your feet up to take a step (while someone holds your hands). You haven’t figured out how to balance on your own yet!
- · We tried to dunk you in the water but you really didn’t like it and acted like you had a hard time breathing afterwards so I’ve been nervous to do it ever since. It upset you!
- · One evening we were at a restaurant having a snack & drink and you saw your reflection in a nearby window and started interacting with it. We laughed so hard! You waved and smiled at yourself!
As I write this, you are 9 days away from turning 12 months. I’m a little late with the 11 month update so I figured I would just combine the two. Right now you are sitting in the office floor pulling everything off the bookshelves and opening the drawers. We have to keep the dangerous things out of your reach now.
You love to put things in other things and take things out of baskets or boxes. This past week you were really on a roll putting your toys under the coffee table or couch and worked to get them out again! I also took a video of you putting some toys under Karch (the blonde Lab that lives at Nana & Grandpa’s). He didn’t seem to be phased by it at all and you really enjoyed it. Made me laugh!
You definitely know when you are not supposed to be doing something because right before you do it, you look at whoever is around to get a reaction. You’ve also figured out the game of “chase” and even though you can’t “run away” you scoot as fast as you can when you know you have something that we are going to take from you.
You also love to play chase with daddy! This is one of your favorite games. You get on one side of the kitchen island and he gets on the other and you chase each other around. Its so much fun to hear you squeal and get so excited when daddy plays with you.
You love to look at photos and you enjoy picking daddy out in each photo. I think we’ve reinforced this so much that now you think daddy is in every photo. You will pass a photo hanging on the wall in our home and say “dada”.
You are so snuggly! Mommy LOVES morning time the best because you give the best snuggles when you wake up in the morning or from naps. You’ve also started snuggling with the dogs when they are laying on the floor. You give the dogs hugs and climb on them. They are really good dogs and don’t seem bothered by this.
This past week you started taking more than one step between us when we are holding your hands. You also started “cruising” while holding onto the ottoman. Its hard to get you to walk when you don’t want to though! We try to have you stand and walk several time during the day and its hit or miss. Sometimes you are very willing and other times you just hold your feet way up in the air and refuse to put them down flat. You’d much rather do your little scoot around the floor! – which, by the way, you are VERY good at and you can move around really fast!
You started wearing a size 4 diaper about a week ago. It felt like you were in 3’s forever so it was weird to go up a size!
You love toys that aren’t actually toys. About a month ago you started playing with an empty diet coke bottle. You thought that was the BEST! You also spent about 30 minutes taking all of the paper off of the Scott tissue rolls & I let you because it distracted you for long enough for me to get ready to go out!
Right now you are trying to “grab” the reflection or glare that is shining off a CD that you pulled out of the office drawer. That is too funny! You also do this kind of thing when you see a shadow. I love watching you grow & learn. It’s the greatest gift!
