Project in Progress

As I mentioned last week, I went to Scott's Antique show with Sarah & I was looking for a piece to go in our kitchen. Brad likes to collect chulo's leash & flashlights on our kitchen table so I needed something that sits right next to the door that leads into the backyard.

I found this little cabinet last weekend and while it is not "perfect", I knew I could make it work for now. The lady I bought it from sold it to me for a VERY reasonable price. I though it was really cute because it has a little drawer at the top (perfect for Chulo's leash). It also has this very interesting 'bowl' attachment on the door (see the photo below). The woman said that this piece is from the 1930's or so. They used to store minerals (probably gold or silver) in the top drawer and mix it in those little bowls. I haven't actually looked this up on google or anything but I thought it sounded pretty conivincing. Either way, I knew I could take this white cabinet home, paint it & make it my little project.

I had blue paint left over from the kitchen walls. I painted the first coat blue and the 2nd coat red. Both colors match my kitchen curtains. It is still a work in progress because I didn't buy enough sanding sponges. It needs a lot more sanding but you will get the general idea.

I think I may also have my sister paint the same flower pattern from the curtains. I think this would add an adorable touch and unfortunately I am not as artsy-fartsy (like brad calls it) as she is.

Just thought I would share my little project that consumed most of my day yesterday. (I was supposed to get a lot more spring cleaning done than I actually did) oh well, I think it was worth it. Enjoy! ~ S

the cabinet BEFORE

This is the little bowl I was talking about. Very interesting.

This is the adorable little drawer

Since the cabinet was already white, I was able to get the 'aged-antique' look I was shooting for

This is a good shot of both of the colors I used

The cabinet AFTER...still not finished but you get the idea. :)
